How to set rate modifier caps for a building

Set rate modifier caps for a building: the smallest and largest delta allowed on a single rule, and the maximum combined delta per unit. Caps limit how far rate modifiers can move unit pricing.

Caps limit how far rate modifiers can move a building's pricing. Set them when several rules can match the same unit and you want a known ceiling on the combined effect.

Before you begin

  • You need permission to manage rate modifiers for the building. Without it, Lavanda shows "You don't have permission to manage rate modifiers for this building".

  • The building already exists. Caps are stored per building, so each building is capped on its own.

  • Decide the range first. All three caps are entered as percentages.

What you need to know

  1. Go to Inventory and select Rate modifiers.

  2. Select the building from the picker above the list. The caps you set apply to that building only.

  3. Select Settings. Under Caps, Lavanda names the building the caps apply to.

  4. Enter Min per-rule delta (%), the smallest delta allowed on any single rule. Use a negative value to allow reductions.

  5. Enter Max per-rule delta (%), the largest delta allowed on any single rule.

  6. Enter Max combined delta (%), the cap on the stacked deltas of every active rule matching one unit.

  7. Select Save. Lavanda confirms with "Settings saved".

The Rate modifier settings panel, with Min per-rule delta (%) labelled 1, Max per-rule delta (%) labelled 2 and Max combined delta (%) labelled 3.

What each cap limits

Cap

What it limits

Min per-rule delta (%)

The smallest delta allowed on any single rule. A rule below it is refused.

Max per-rule delta (%)

The largest delta allowed on any single rule. A rule above it is refused.

Max combined delta (%)

The stacked deltas of every active rule matching one unit. This is a soft cap: exceeding it records a warning rather than refusing the rule.

When would you use it

  • You need to stop a single rule moving a rate by more than a set proportion.

  • You need a ceiling on the combined effect when several attributes match one unit.

  • You need reductions allowed as well as increases, within a known range.

  • You need one consistent limit for everyone who can create rules on a building.

Things to note

  • Caps are stored per building. Caps saved on one building do not apply to any other.

  • For a building with no caps saved, the panel opens pre-filled. Min per-rule delta (%) reads -50, Max per-rule delta (%) reads 50, and Max combined delta (%) reads 100. Select Save to store them.

  • The two per-rule caps are enforced when a rule is saved. Lavanda refuses the rule. It shows "Delta exceeds the max per-rule cap for this building" or "Delta is below the min per-rule cap for this building".

  • Max combined delta (%) is a soft cap. Exceeding it records a warning and does not stop the rules applying.

  • Caps are set on the same screen as the rules, so a change here can make an existing delta impossible to re-save.

  • Lavanda uses the words rate modifier for a second, unrelated setting. Rate modifier (optional) on a derived product group applies a percentage to a parent product's rate. These fields do not cap it.
